I'm Courtney. This is my Experience from Links class .
I'm Courtney, and this is my amazing experience through Links class. When I was a Sophomore I was in Health class, everyday Mrs Koch a parapro for kids with special needs would come in with one of her students and just get to work. But as I sat there studying Mrs Koch and being so intrigued by what she does I couldn't help but want to do the same thing. She showed so much care for that student just by doing the simple things such as help her with a question she may have had or tell her the instructions if she may have not gotten them. So I started thinking to my self, what if i could do some sort of shadowing during school that would count as a class. And I kept going with my idea but took it further, I went to the counselor and explained to her what my idea was and if she could help me in any way. After I had talked to her she had told me that I was the first one to want to do anything like this and that she and another teacher had been wanting to start up a class that does exactly what i'm looking for. She told me I could be their little"guinea pig" and try it out and if it worked they would go further with the class and get more people to do it.
And that's where it all began, my passion for special education. They assigned me with a kid that has a high case of Autism. His name is Zach Anibal , the most sweet and kind hearted kid I know. Ever since that day, I have enjoyed being in this class so much. I get one on one time with him that allows me to be able to learn what exactly autism is. Being able to spend every other day with zach brightens my day, Zach's daily routine is to go to his locker put his backpack away and visit his favorite teacher before he goes to his computer class. Being in this class has made me realize how lucky I am, not everyone gets this opportunity to be able to visit and shadow. I have such a big passion for this, I think its from being there with him for 2 years and making a connection that most people don't have with him and for him to recognize me and communicate with me makes being with him even better. I can't wait to continue to make memories with Zach and carry on our friendship.
